Ray Estefania is a Psychotherapist, Certified Addiction Professional and Certified Intervention Professional specializing in evaluations, drug and alcohol counseling, educational and therapeutic consulting, intervention and therapeutic placement services to those suffering from substance use disorders and mental health issues. Mr. Estefania works with adolescents, adults and families and much of his practice is geared toward helping individuals become more productive in order to lead happy, healthy, successful lives. Ray also provides concierge level crisis and case management to clients and their families, as well as recovery and life coaching. He is now a psychotherapist, therapeutic consultant and interventionist at a practice called R&A Therapeutic Partners which works with families locally, nationally and internationally.

With nearly 30 years experience as a mental health counselor and addiction specialist and as a graduate of  University of Florida and Nova Southeastern University, he is currently serving as private practitioner working with a broad spectrum of clients. Among his areas of expertise are depression, anxiety, substance and process addictions, ADHD, and bipolar disorder.  Mr. Estefania has developed a special expertise for working with adolescents and young adults however he is very comfortable working with older adults, couples and parents also.

In addition to being a prominent psychotherapist and addiction professional, Mr. Estefania was Co-Founder and Executive Director of Family Recovery Specialists, an intensive outpatient program for substance use disorders. He sold the program in July of 2018 to focus solely on his private practice. Ray has also been the Director of two very well known and respected hospital-based chemical dependency programs, including South Miami Hospital's Adolescent Program, where he was for 11 years. He is a frequent guest on both radio and television programs on many topics including addiction, recovery and parenting. Mr. Estefania is considered an expert in his field and has been called on to provide education and consultation to physicians, nurses, mental health professionals, school administrators and parent organizations on topics related to chemical dependency and recovery. In addition, he provides expert witness testimony in legal cases involving substance abuse and dependency. Mr. Estefania specializes in working with very diverse, multicultural families as he understands the different cultural needs and is uniquely qualified to work with families locally, nationally and internationally.

Education

Mr. Estefania received his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida and his graduate degree from Nova Southeastern University. He is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor,  a Certified Addiction Professional in the state of Florida and an Internationally Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. In addition, he has received extensive training in the treatment of co-occurring disorders as well as in a family based approach to the treatment of substance abuse in adolescents. He attends trainings and workshops regularly to receive continuing education and to stay current with advancements in his field. In addition, he travels regularly to visit programs so he can have the latest information on therapeutic resources available across the country for individuals and families.

Additional Training Mr. Estefania has received extensive training and supervision at University of Miami's Center for Treatment Research on Adolescent Drug Abuse (CTRADA) in the Multi-Dimensional Family Therapy (MDFT) approach to adolescent substance abuse. In addition, Ray has been trained in Johnson, Systemic Family Intervention and the evidence-based ARISE models of intervention. He regularly attends workshops and conferences on various topics including addiction, mental health issues, treatment of co-occurring disorders and intervention.

Professional Activities and Memberships

Mr. Estefania is a Professional member of the American Counseling Association, an Individual member of the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs and a member of the Network of Independent Interventionists. He is also a member of the City of South Miami's Drug Free Coalition and a former member of the Board of Directors for Informed Families, The Florida Family Partnership. In addition, he sits on the Advisory Board for The Health Information Project, a school based health education program which increases awareness and access to healthcare for students. Ray also sits on the Board of Directors and is the treasurer of an organization called the Therapeutic Consulting Association (TCA) dedicated to the field of educational and therapeutic consulting.
